CHECK AN EXAMINER'S CREDENTIALS
How to Verify an FMCSA Certified Medical Examiner
A DOT physical for federally regulated commercial driving must be performed by an eligible licensed medical examiner listed on the FMCSA National Registry. The Registry, rather than a general clinic advertisement, is the authoritative verification source. DOTSTG has not yet published a verified individual examiner name or National Registry identifier.
Why the National Registry exists
FMCSA maintains a National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners who meet the agency’s requirements to perform commercial-driver medical examinations. Eligible professionals may have different types of professional licenses. An individual’s credentials and current Registry status matter more than a clinic’s marketing claim.
How drivers can check a medical examiner
Open the FMCSA National Registry search, locate the examiner using their full professional name or available identifier, and check the listing before the examination. Ask the clinic for the identity of the professional who will perform your exam. Do not assume that every clinician at a medical office is certified to perform DOT exams.
What the examiner determines
The examiner reviews medical history and physical findings in relation to the relevant driving safety standards and may seek further information. The decision can involve certification, a shorter certification period or a determination that the driver does not meet the requirements. Only the responsible examiner can make that determination.
Information still awaiting DOTSTG verification
The clinic’s original medical examiner names, license types, Registry identifiers and authentic profile photos have not been validated for publication. We will not invent an individual’s credentials or substitute stock portraits for actual practitioners. Call for the examiner’s current name and verify through FMCSA.
